Japan was defeated in war and the country reduced to rubble, but driven by strong desire and will of the Japanese people, restoration and economic growth were soon to follow, and advertising played a key role in this reconstruction. First, newspapers and magazines experienced resurgence. Then, in 1951, commercial radio stations began to sprout up across the country as a new form of mass media. Two years later, Japan’s first commercial television station made its debut. Quickly, commercial broadcasting ensured its position as a major advertising medium. |
