employees by Yoshida Hideo, Dentsu's fourth
president, represent Yoshida's own disciplines
that he imposed on himself. "Your work
is to be created by yourself, not offered
by others" and nine other equally enlightening
rules apply to all whether engaged in advertising
or not. |

Taisho eras, assorted by ADMT in a poster
style or printed on Kraft paper may
be used as wrapping paper, book-covers, etc.
Matches were exported in boxes that often
featured exotic designs that reflected cultures
of the destination countries.

played with dice), said to be from Tempo era
(1830~1843), has 55 pictures representing
popular products, stores or scenery in Edo
in those days, arranged in the way similar
to the famous "53 Stations of Tokaido"
located between Edo and Kyoto. Players enjoyed
the virtual strutting along Edo streets. |

Published
to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Yoshida
Hideo Memorial Foundation, this picturesque
book contains ads mainly from Edo to Early
Showa eras that are carefully selected from
numerous ADMT collections, classified and
presented under Nishiki-e, Hikifuda
(flyers), posters, signboards and other categories.
Each ad in the book is presented along with
data and informative comments.
The book also features themes of interest
such as "An Exposition as a Medium"
and "TV and Radio Commercials in the
20th Century."
Not for sale in bookstores but copies are
available for purchase at the Museum Shop
for ¥3,500 (Japanese version only). |
